Jamaica Honeymoon Planning: What You Need to Know

Thinking of going to Jamaica for your honeymoon? We don’t blame you! With its powdery-white sand beaches, unforgettable sunsets, and clear turquoise waters, it’s got all the makings for a romantic trip for any couple. Plus, it’s one of the more affordable places to go for a honeymoon in the Caribbean.

We’ve put together some of the most important information you need for your upcoming romantic getaway.

Where to spend your honeymoon in Jamaica

When flying to Jamaica, you’ll have two options for international airports: the Manley International Airport (KIN) in Kingston and Donald Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay. The second one is the one most couples tend to fly to especially if they will be staying at a resort.

The top three most popular spots for honeymooners in Jamaica are Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril. Take a look at what each has to offer so you can pick the right region for you.

Negril: Negril is famous for being the place where you’ll find Seven Mile Beach which you’ll find more about below. You’ll have access to great local restaurants and culture.

Montego Bay: Montego Bay, or “Mo-Bay,” has many resorts in the area and many honeymooners tend to stay here and do day trips to the other regions. If you want a honeymoon that has ample nightlife and excellent restaurants, this is the region for you.

Ochos Rios: Ochos Rios offers a good taste of local culture and shopping. Many people stay here so they can easily access Dunn’s River Falls, parks and other attractions. It’s also the location that is closest to James Bond Beach which was featured in the film, “Dr. No.”

Things to do on your honeymoon

Each location of Jamaica has its own charm so you won’t be disappointed with your options for things to do. We’ve brought together a list of experiences that are well worth your time.

Visit Seven Mile Beach:

This beach in Negril is one of the top things to do whether you are staying in Negril or not. You’ll enjoy parasailing, glass bottom boat and banana boat rides. When you aren’t in the water, you’ll love exploring the work of local artists and shopping.

Sunset catamaran ride:

Sipping your favorite drink while taking in the view of the bluest, clearest water (and of course, your love), is a memory you’ll have long after your trip ends.

Visit Rick’s Café in Negril:

Rick’s features a 35-foot high platform for cliff jumping and it’s perfect for couples who want a little bit more adventure. Even if you would rather not make the jump, it boasts some beautiful scenery and excellent food.

Visit a waterfall:

There are two waterfalls that are especially well-known in Jamaica: YS Falls and Dunn’s River Falls. YS Falls is in Saint Elizabeth Parish and many people like to go to the famous Pelican Bar when they go here. It is easy to reach for a day trip from the other regions as well. Dunn’s River Falls is just outside of Ocho Rios. You’ll find several tiers of falls to explore plus a river that will give you excellent views.

Go to Margaritaville:

Sound familiar? If you thought of the song by the same name, then yes, this is that Margaritaville. It was made by singer Jimmy Buffet and the focus is on offering many options to have fun. You’ll access a gorgeous beach as well as classic bar fare for dining options such as pizza and hamburgers. Of course, you’ll get to enjoy live Reggae music. And, if you haven’t already, make sure to check out the water trampolines.

Visit Evita’s:

Excellent Italian food in Jamaica? Only at Evita’s which is located in St. Ann Parish. This open-air restaurant has a menu of classic Italian dishes plus interesting options such Jerk spaghetti. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you it’s a must-see spot.

Yaaman Adventure Park:

This oceanfront park in Ochos Rios offers a range of activities for those who are craving adventure. From dune-buggy rides, horseback riding to even a Camel Trekking Safari Experience.

Visit Nine Mile Village:

If you love Bob Marley, this a must-see place to visit. Located in Saint Ann Parish, it’s the birthplace of the Reggae legend and is also where he is buried. Go for the guided tour of the local museum and the mausoleum where he was buried.

Visit Rocklands Bird Sanctuary:

This beautiful garden is just 30 minutes away from downtown Montego Bay. It’s is incredibly romantic and a perfect spot to relax and take in the beautiful scenery with your love. You’ll be able to view, photograph, and hand-feed exotic and endemic species of birds. You’ll receive a bottle of nectar when you arrive that you’ll use to attract and feed the hummingbirds.

See Doctor’s Cave Beach and Bath Club:

Located in Montego Bay, Doctor’s Cave Beach and Bathing Club has white sands, clear waters that have been said to be from mineral springs. In the early 1920s, a famous British osteopath declared that the water had curative powers after swimming here which is how the area earned its name. Because of its clear water, it is also an excellent spot to go snorkeling. There is an admission charge but it is worth it as you get changing rooms and access to restaurants, gift shops, and beach equipment to rent.

Take a zipline tour:

Jamaica offers many opportunities to do ziplining through the canopies of beautiful jungles near Negril, Montego Bay and Ochos Rios. If you want some extra excitement and adventure during your honeymoon, make sure to fit this into your plans.
