Travel Books to Enjoy Right Now

Last week, we shared the top travel podcasts you should be listening to that will help you plan your next trip in the future (or just indulge the travel lover in all of us). This week, we’re sharing some of the best books you should be reading now that will take you on a travel adventure with the turn of each page or will just help you learn something new as a traveler. Sure, many of you most likely won’t be traveling anywhere (or anywhere too far) but these books will still be a satisfying way to have some escape in your life. We’ve included a little something for everyone. Here are our favorites.

1) Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel Quiz Book by Lonely Planet

This one is well-rated on Amazon and is full of quizzes that will teach you something new about different countries around the world and how to travel within them. You’ll see questions themed around everything from geography and culture to history, wildlife and transport. It’s broken down into three sections: Easy, Medium and Hard. An excellent book to enjoy now while you’re at home and later on during your travels.

2) Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

You’ve probably heard by now that this was made into a movie. But this one is well worth the read as you’ll explore the culture of Singapore from the food to the values of the people there. You’ll find all the details they couldn’t fit into the movie and you’ll appreciate every single one of them.

3) Wild Women by Mariella Frostup

From Constantinople to Crimea, from Antarctica to the Andes, women throughout history have had gone on adventures and recorded them all. Read about more than 50 of the travels told by women from the 1700s to the present day including well-known heroines such as Isabella Bird, Dervla Murphy and Cheryl Straid as well as unknown and undiscovered adventurers.

4) The Caliph’s House: A Year in Casablanca by Tahir Shah

Inspired by his childhood vacations in Morocco, Tahir Shah always dreamt of buying a home there one day. When he finally does, he isn’t prepared for the oftentimes funny journey he and his family go on as they move there from England.

5) The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

This book has received over 25,000 high ratings on Amazon. It follows an Andalusian shepherd who goes on a journey to find a treasure and in the process finds himself. You’ll find so many inspiring passages to quote

6) A Moveable Feast (Life Changing Food Adventures Around The World) edited by Don George

This book covers 38 short stories from around the world as told by top chefs, foodies and writers. You’ll get a good sense of the culture where each meal is from whether it is mutton in Mongolia to couscous in Morocco to tacos in Tijuana. It’s a great gift for any traveler who loves to really immerse themselves in another country’s culture.

7) Destinations of a Lifetime: 225 of the World’s Most Amazing Places by National Geographic

This one has earned 880 raves on Amazon for its vivid images of some of the most incredible places you have to visit. From scenic islands, rain forest and exciting cities to ancient architecture and everything in between, you’ll find many places to add to your travel bucket list. And because it’s by National Geographic, you know that the pictures will be just spectacular and memorable.
