The Best Movies to Binge on that Will Let You See the World from Your Couch

We’re all under quarantine right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a virtual vacation from home. And one of the best ways to do that is to watch a travel-inspired movie or two. To see the sites and sounds through the eyes of a character not only helps pass the time but will hopefully help you add more items to your travel bucket list to check off later. Take a look at our curated list of the best travel movies you should watch now.

Eat, Pray, Love

Italy, India and Indonesia all in one movie means you will be in for an adventure that you won’t forget. Julia Roberts stars in this movie about a woman who goes through a figurative journey of self-discovery and growth as she goes through a literal journey through these three countries. She’ll find romance, peace, and lots of delicious food. And a few surprises along the way. This is one we can’t recommend enough!

The Bucket List

We couldn’t make this list without sharing this movie. Jack Nicholson stars as billionaire Edward Cole who meets Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) who is a car mechanic when they both share the same hospital room. They are driven to finally complete a list of things they want to see and do before they die so they leave the hospital and set off to make it all happen. They travel to France, China, India, Nepal, Tanzania, and Egypt. This is the perfect mix of comedy and drama that makes for an unforgettable movie.

Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Ben Stiller stars in this one as a man who daydreams often to escape his fairly boring job. He ends up needing to go on an international journey after his job is threatened. Enjoy the unforgettably beautiful scenery as he travels to Greenland, Iceland and the Himalayas. As he grows into becoming more of the person he wants to be, Walter Mitty also ends up inspiring audiences to dream big and finally take action on their travel bucket list.

Hector and the Search for Happiness

A psychiatrist grows tired of his humdrum life and begins wondering how to find happiness. He decides to travel to find the secret to inner joy and visit China and a part of Africa as well. Along the way he writes down the lessons he learns in his travel journal. There are plenty of funny scenes in this one as well as drama and action.

Lost in Translation

If you’ve ever wanted to visit Tokyo, this one is for you. Bob Harris (Bill Murray) is a well-known American actor who accepts a job doing a commercial for Japanese whiskey to be shot in Tokyo as a way to keep his slowly sinking career going. While there, he meets Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) who he learns shares some of the same dissatisfactions in life as he does. Together, they roam through Tokyo learning how to get past their culture shock as they take in the sites and sounds. They become fast friends and bonds deeply but there might be room to become something more.

So, if you’ve been meaning to add to your bucket list, we hope these movies inspire you to do just that. You’ll get to travel the world right from home and hopefully enjoy a mini virtual vacation as well.
