Spotlight on Los Cabos

Did you know? Los Cabos actually refers to two towns: San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Both are connected by a 20-mile corridor that includes outstanding golf courses, unmatched shopping experiences, and of course, pristine beaches. Here are a few attractions you won’t want to miss.

In San Jose del Cabo, you’ll find incredible art galleries and can enjoy the Art Walk, a fun event where you will walk around all of its art galleries while enjoying music and street shows.

Just an hour away from San Jose del Cabo is Todos Santos. You’ll fall in love with its vibrant colonial architecture including beautiful pastel buildings and historic façades. This town is known for its rich and extensive art galleries, most of which line the cobblestone streets surrounding the downtown district. Among the types of artwork you’ll find include painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, mixed media and glass art.

Marina Cabo San Lucas is another hot spot that you’ll be glad you visited. It is packed with top restaurants, stores and exhilarating nightlife.

During your stay, check out Cabo Pulmo, a protected National Marine Park. Called “The Aquarium of the World,” it is the oldest of only three coral reefs on the west coast of North America.

The golf courses in Los Cabos are unmatched so make sure you get at least one round in. In fact, the region is considered “the capital of golf” in Mexico. The courses are highly ranked worldwide and top golfers including Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman have designed courses there worth visiting.

Finally, don’t forget the incredible beaches! Here are a few of the most popular ones to see:

Lover’s Beach (Playa del Amor): This is one of the most romantic and most photographed destinations in Los Cabos and faces the Sea of Cortes. It earned its name because it is so private and secluded. It’s known for El Arc, the limestone rock formation that looks like a gateway to the sea and it’s part of the Land’s End promontory.

Divorce Beach: Just a two-minute walk from Lover’s beach, this beach faces the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, while you’ll enjoy incredible sunset views, there are also turbulent waters and rip tides that make it too dangerous to swim. Rather, this a beach better for picnicking, walking and taking pictures. There are no bathrooms, restaurants or hotels, so come prepared with your camera, sunscreen and food. You’ll need to get here from Médano Beach by water taxi (panga), many of which have glass bottoms so you can enjoy seeing the fish swim underneath, to Lover’s Beach and walk over from there.

El Médano Beach: This is one of the most popular beaches in the area and is lined with bars, hotels and restaurants. You’ll find many vendors here selling everything from food to trinkets to take home. It is considered the best place to find kayaks, wave runners and stand up paddle surfboards.

Chileno Beach: One of the cleanest beaches in Mexico, Chileno and is known as a prime spot for swimming and snorkeling. There is a ban on motorized sports here so you’ll enjoy much more peace and quiet at this beach. You’ll also want to explore the tide pools here as well. It also has a paved parking lot, bathrooms, showers, shade palapas and disabled access, so you’ll have everything you need to enjoy yourself.

Santa María: Another excellent location for snorkeling, this beach is especially wonderful to visit in October when the waters are warm. The water is fairly clear so you can see many colorful fish going by in the water when you go for a swim. It’s also a great location for whale watching.

Costa Azul: This beach is especially good for those who love to surf. In fact, the World Surf League hosts its annual Los Cabos Open of Surf at Zippers, an expert-level, right-hand reef break. There is also Zipper’s Restaurant which is great burgers and seafood.
